10 Laws of Social Media Marketing

social media twitter stream flickr
Leveraging the power of content and social media marketing can help elevate your audience and customer base in a dramatic way. But getting started without any previous experience or insight could be challenging.
It's vital that you understand social media marketing fundamentals. From maximizing quality to increasing your online entry points, abiding by these 10 laws will help build a foundation that will serve your customers, your brand and -- perhaps most importantly -- your bottom line.
1. The Law of Listening
Success with social media and content marketing requires more listening and less talking. Read your target audience’s online content and join discussions to learn what’s important to them. Only then can you create content and spark conversations that add value rather than clutter to their lives.
2. The Law of Focus
It’s better to specialize than to be a jack-of-all-trades. A highly-focused social media and content marketing strategy intended to build a strong brand has a better chance for success than a broad strategy that attempts to be all things to all people.
3. The Law of Quality
Quality trumps quantity. It’s better to have 1,000 online connections who read, share and talk about your content with their own audiences than 10,000 connections who disappear after connecting with you the first time.
4. The Law of Patience
Social media and content marketing success doesn’t happen overnight. While it’s possible to catch lightning in a bottle, it’s far more likely that you’ll need to commit to the long haul to achieve results.
5. The Law of Compounding
If you publish amazing, quality content and work to build your online audience of quality followers, they’ll share it with their own audiences on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, their own blogs and more.
This sharing and discussing of your content opens new entry points for search engines like Google to find it in keyword searches. Those entry points could grow to hundreds or thousands of more potential ways for people to find you online.
6. The Law of Influence
Spend time finding the online influencers in your market who have quality audiences and are likely to be interested in your products, services and business. Connect with those people and work to build relationships with them.
If you get on their radar as an authoritative, interesting source of useful information, they might share your content with their own followers, which could put you and your business in front of a huge new audience.
7. The Law of Value
If you spend all your time on the social Web directly promoting your products and services, people will stop listening. You must add value to the conversation. Focus less on conversions and more on creating amazing content and developing relationships with online influencers. In time, those people will become a powerful catalyst for word-of-mouth marketing for your business.
8. The Law of Acknowledgment
You wouldn’t ignore someone who reaches out to you in person so don’t ignore them online. Building relationships is one of the most important parts of social media marketing success, so always acknowledge every person who reaches out to you.
9. The Law of Accessibility
Don’t publish your content and then disappear. Be available to your audience. That means you need to consistently publish content and participate in conversations. Followers online can be fickle and they won’t hesitate to replace you if you disappear for weeks or months.
10. The Law of Reciprocity
You can’t expect others to share your content and talk about you if you don’t do the same for them. So, a portion of the time you spend on social media should be focused on sharing and talking about content published by others.

Social Media Monday: Getting Started With MeetON

You haven’t registered for MeetON yet?! Then you’ve been missing out on all the excitement, my friend! This is the perfect time to register on the site! Here are a few tips and tricks to get you started.

Where do I register?
To register as a viewer on MeetON, you can sign up here: https://www.meeton.com/register.html
You will be prompted to complete a registration form, upload a profile photo, and list some of your interests. Once you have registered as a Viewer, you will be able to watch  pre-recorded videos and live-streaming content for free, as well as purchase exclusive content that you can’t see anywhere else! How cool is that!?
What is the difference between a Live Event and a Pre-Recorded video?
When you visit your MeetON homepage, you will see videos labeled “Coming Soon,” “Latest Celebrity Videos” and “Latest MeetON Demand Videos”. First, check out the videos labeled “Coming Soon”; these are live broadcasts that will begin at the time indicated on the ticker at the bottom of the event image. Afraid you will forget to tune into an event when it goes live? Simply click the “remind me” button to add the broadcast to your calendar.
Once you have become familiar with the Live Event videos, mosey on down to the “Latest Celebrity Videos” and “Latest MeetON Demand Videos”. These include videos of live events that have already passed and pre-recorded videos uploaded by MeetON Broadcasters. Since these are not live events, each video is labeled with Duration and Price (if applicable) instead of a countdown ticker.
How do I share MeetOn videos on my favorite social networks?
Ok, so you’ve created an awesome profile, uploaded a great profile picture, and have familiarized yourself with the Live Event and Pre-Recorded videos. Now I bet you want to share all this amazing content with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and via email, right? Great! Here’s how to do it:
Click on a Live Event or Pre-Recorded Video, and then click the “Share” icon. A drop-down menu will appear with a list of the top social networks you can use to share the video. Select your favorite social network, or choose the “More” category to see additional social networks (all 337 of them!) you can share the video on.
Can I interact with other MeetON Users and add them as Friends?
Absolutely! That’s what makes MeetON so unique; every Broadcaster and Viewer has an Add Friend button on their profile. That means you can add everyone from your best friend to your favorite celebrities to your Friends list! Can you think of a better way to keep up with the daily lives of your favorite celebs and friends all in one place?
If you want to message a Friend directly, simply navigate to their profile and scroll down to the message box on the right. Type your message, click submit, and wait patiently (or impatiently) for them to send you one back. Pretty neat, isn’t it?
Now that you have all the tools you need to make the most out of your MeetON experience, we want to hear from you! How do you plan on using MeetON to build your business this year? Post your answer in the comment section below!

Social Media Monday: Instagram

Instagram: the social network that everyone’s heard of, but not everyone uses. It’s time to jump on the Instagram bandwagon! Instagram has risen in popularity in the last year, and trust me; it’s not going away anytime soon. Ready to learn how to use Instagram? Great! Let’s start with the basics:

What is it?
Instagram is a free app download that allows users to edit and share photos simultaneously across Facebook, Twitter, and FourSquare (in addition to Instagram!). Keep in mind that you must use a smartphone or tablet to access Instagram’s posting and editing features, but you can view a user’s profile on the web simply by going to instagram.com/username.

How do I create an account?
From your smartphone or tablet, navigate to your app store. Once you’re there, search “Instagram” and download the free app to your device. Next, click on the app and follow the instructions for signing up. Don’t forget to upload a picture and complete your bio!

How do I post a photo?
See that little blue camera icon at the bottom of your screen? Use that button to navigate to your camera app and take a photo. Want to post a photo that is saved in your photo archive? Simply click photo-capture button, then the Poloroid-photo button next to it. You can now select a photo from your photo gallery and post it directly to Instagram!

Once you have taken a photo or selected one from your gallery, it’s time to edit it. Use the filter icons that appear at the bottom of your screen to add fun colors to your photo, and play around with the tear-drop icon that allows you to bring your subject into focus while blurring out the background. See how fun this is? And you thought that Instagram wasn’t for you…!

How do I tag a photo?
Once you have finished editing your photo, click the arrow button at the top of your screen to navigate to the “details” page. This is where you put the finishing touches on your photo by adding a caption and hashtags. Yup, just like Twitter, make sure to use appropriate hashtags with each photo so that people who don’t follow you can find and like your photo (and maybe even become a new follower!). Select which social networks to share your photo on, and when you’re ready, post your photo using the check mark at the top of the screen. Congrats! You have posted your very first photo to Instagram!

How do I like a photo?
See a photo that you like? Click on it to expand the image and then double tap the photo. That’s it! So easy you could do it with your eyes closed (now raise your hand if you actually tried to like a photo with your eyes closed…).

How do I follow another user?
Using the search feature (it looks like a compass at the bottom of your screen) search for other users you would like to follow, click on their thumbnail to navigate to their profile, and then click the big blue “follow”.

Who should I follow?Market America, of course! Navigate to our page by using the search term “marketamerica”, and click follow. Once we have 500+ followers, we are going to do a fun giveaway, so make sure to tell all your friends to follow us, too!

Other great Instagram users you should follow are: @LorenRidinger, @JRRidinger, @AmberRidinger, @DuaneMcLaughlin, @AndrewJWeissman, @MotivesBeauty, @Lala, and @CarmeloAnthony.

Do you have any questions about using Instagram to share your photos and interact with other users? Post them in the comment section below and we will answer them!

Social Media Monday: Using Pinterest To Set Your Holiday List

If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ve struggled with trying to find the time to get everything on your “to-do” list done before the Holidays arrive. Gift buying, holiday parties, and school activities seem to take up every last second of the day. And if you’re also like me, you’re probably still searching for that perfect present for your special someone. Can’t find the right gift? What if I told you it was probably online waiting for you to find it?

Pinterest, the ever growing social media channel dedicating to sharing, or “pinning” photos, is the perfect place to find inspiration for gifts for family and friends. Where else can you glean insight into items that you’re special someone might find interesting? If you have a loved one that has been on Pinterest for some time, just glancing at their page should be enough to give you plenty of inspiration (especially if you’re a last minute shopper, like I am).

And here’s an even better idea, why not use the holidays as motivation to start a Pinterest account and create your own holiday list on SHOP.COM? Creating an account is very easy; all it takes is 60 seconds and an email address. Once you’ve created your account, head over to SHOP.COM and follow these steps:

1. Pick your gift
Once you’ve found a present you can’t live without, click the “pin it” button to the right of your product. (You can also learn how to download this button to your toolbar here.)

2. Edit your pin
A small window will open with the image you’ve selected. Choose which board you’d like to pin it to. In this case, we’ve dedicated an entire board on Pinterest just for a wish list of holiday gifts! A description will appear automatically, but you can edit it however you’d like. When you’re finished, click the red Pin It button.

3. Share
Your window should refresh to tell you that your item was pinned successfully! Here, you have the choice to share it on Facebook or Twitter for maximum exposure. If you’d rather not share, no worries! Simply click “See your Pin” to go directly to your Pinterest board.

4. See
Your pin will now be the first photo on the board of your choosing. You can edit the pin or leave a comment on it at any time. Share your board with friends & family so they know what’s on your holiday wish list!

Social Media Monday: Say It with a Snapshot

The ma Blog Team LOVES to share our favorite tips and tricks for building your business – especially when it comes to social media. So, every Monday, we share some of the latest tips, and the answers to our most frequently asked questions. Today we’ll tell you why you should ALWAYS include a visual aid with your posts.

When you log on to Facebook, you’re automatically taken to your Newsfeed. The Newsfeed is Facebook’s helpful way of keeping you in the know on what your friends, family and business partners are up to. It’s a quick look at everyone’s activity, status messages, and shares. It’s also the platform where your status messages, shares and updates are shown to your contacts!

You may have something great to say, but before you update your status, think about what catches the eye better:
“I just tried the best new supplement! You HAVE to get a taste of Opuvita!”
OR
“I just kicked back with a cold glass of Opuvita! YUM! I’m going to have to order another bottle.”
Whether you’re talking about the latest product you love, or telling people where you grabbed coffee in the morning, you’ll catch more attention and get more feedback if you say it with a picture.

When it comes to products, the Market America Facebook page makes sure to share a unique product post every afternoon. Try sharing those images, or using them for inspiration to create your own. They can really help create a buzz and boost engagement with your audience.

Stay tuned! Every Monday we’ll be sharing more of our favorite inside techniques for using social media to grow your business. You can also find out more by checking out last week’s Social Media Monday post: Pinning for Business.
